Herbaceous border at Winsford Walled Garden

As you walk the garden wraps itself around you. Every step brings new surprises around the corner.

All my life I have had dreams of walled gardens...a looking for Eden thing, I suppose. This is very full...what did you start with? you appear to be in a valley by the farmstead on the hill. what is the n.s.e.w. orientation?

Hi Lori,my garden is on the ridge of the opposite hill you can see. What did we start with? So far as the garden is concerned you can read about it at 'Winsford's Development' on the Winsford Gardens section of my site at www.winsfordwalledgarden.com.

So far as this picture is concerned. Where the film maker is standing there used to be a concrete road and a WW2 mess hut. Everything else was 8ft brambles or worse! I spent four years building up my herbaceous stock for this area before digging up the road and creating the design two years before this picture was taken.

Just looked at your web site for the garden, MW - what an achievement - hard to believe such a transformation could take place in such a short time. I am familiar with the Lost Gardens at Heligan, Cornwall, which also has a lovely walled garden and greenhouses. But you really did have to start from scratch here. Well done, I'll put it on my 'to visit' list next time I'm back in the West Country.
