Wild Calypso Orchid 1

Wild Calypso Orchid 1

Our wild orchid, one of the spring bloomers. I went out the highway into an area I had heard they were all over. And they were. Small but beautiful.

Thanks for all the somments. It really is a beautiful (3inch tall) thing to behold. Amazing fragrance, but I didn't note even one insect on any of them. hmmmm. Finding them is sooo much better than visiting them at the store Grammazoo! :-)

Thanks Tasteyg. These are really wonders. And a strong wonderful smell that was intoxicating in the heat of that day. Like paradise. :-) I had to go out and see them in person and of course share.

are your wild orchids protected ours are .Ihave some common ones that were going to be sprayed with weed killer and they are now in my garden in a flower pot

I don't believe so Thistle. They wouldn't have much life anywhere else. They need the mosses and the long cold. I could dig them and bring them home, but I don't think they would move away from our country here and survive.

So glad you could save the ones you found from the spray. And now they've a wonderful home. I'm really tempted to collect some of the calypso to live at my home. I don't like disturbing them.
