Yes, Janey - I love feeding them. There were about fifteen of them swooping around when I caught this one.
It's a Red Kite, Jacque - like they have in Wales. They started reintroducing them in the Chiltern in about 1990 and they have done really well, there's loads of them now and some nest in the woods behind my house.

Somebody (no names mentioned) suggested I lie down on the grass and put chicken wings on my tummy to get an even closer close-up.

I may be daft but even I am not that stupid - can you imagine what I would look like down there sprouting chicken wings? LOL

fantastic shot wagger , there is a pair up north of Scotland ,I think they were reintroduced there a couple of years ago , I was lucky enough to see them , huge wingspan on em , but to get them in your garden is tremendous. I wouldnt fancy your chances with chicken wings on your tummy if they talons caught you.

That's what I thought, Mac, so he said 'Put a sheet of plywood on top of you with the chicken wings on that' Don't think so!

What are you feeding it Wagger? It's a beauty!

Chicken wings and carcass, Tasteyg and not often as there is concern about them becoming dependant on handouts. It's been a real success story here in the UK. I believe it was down to about six pairs in Wales at it's worst and this was topped up with birds from Spain and Sweden.

Wow ! I am totally gobsmacked Wagger. That's probably the last bird I would expect to see in a garden. Fantastic !!! ;~))

They're regular visitors, Muddy - when I've got food for them. A bit of whistling and once one responds they call each other. They do quite well for road kills round here too.
