Violets

In the shade house I found many ferns starting up, huge clumps of bergenia and violets. (I must say my bergenia is well ahead of these in blooming. :-) Violets are something I don't often see here with such short springs.

I can understand how each sighting can be unexpected and therefore exciting. This looks so delicate yet it must be a survivor.

This clump was pretty healthy GG. The botanical garden is on a nice south hill and this is under slated shade roofing.
I found one wild once, tiny, about 3 inches wide, the whole plant. I'd had back surgery and spent the summer recovering, wandering the slowly back wood. The flower was the size of a pencil eraser. I was amazed. And still, that is the only wild one I've seen here. I've loved them since.
