Spicebush Swallowtail (Lindera benzoin)

A Spicebush Swallowtail resting. This swallowtail's host plant is none other than Spicebush ! We have many spicebushes in our side yard and in the back woods. Spicebush Swallowtail is one of the most frequent butterflies in my yard.

wish we saw these up here... will have to be more observant and take more pics...but living in a town environ cuts down on the viewings of migratory wildlife. I'm planning to put in a bog garden this summer and I've been reading up on attracting more wildlife into my garden. I'm going to construct a butterfly woodpile...I'm enjoying viewing your pics.
