Wow,I 'd love to have one of these growing over my arbor. It looks great !

Flrcrazy. You may already know this, but for those who may not......Most available clematis for sale are about 6-8 ft, some will do 12ft but the montana group are the biggies, upwards of 26ft and these should cover your arbor by 'year three'.
Visitors to my garden will often ask me about a problem they have had with growing clematis and I have a page full of growing advice on my web site, simple type 'clematis' in my search window.

The Montana looks great.
I must confess My late Montana was 10 years old ran along the garden for 25 meters yes . with so many flowers twice a year ., then sudenly died late summer I do not know why. I even thought it might be the next door idiot with weed killer. Does anyone have any suggestions . seeing this picture has made me sad as the buds are beginng around the garden and trailing twigs are left where this proud plant ran around the fencing.

Claudio...I too have a neighbour whose gardening practices leave me pulling my hair out! I planted aegopodium all along our fence...take that!
Not many people go to those lengths though... my greatest concern is with spray drift...we still have herbicide purveyers over here too...they say they are lawn companies...they are poisoners, pure and simple. could it be something of that nature?
One thing I learned about clematis is never to count the roots dead...the upper part of the plant may be gone (we have winter kill here) but the plant may come again from the roots...
I hope the poisoning was accidental, I can't imagine anyone wanting to get rid of this wonderful plant...

Claudio. I'm in the habit of absolutely 'hacking the living daylights' out of my clematis montanas. This descriptive is more realistic than simply saying 'a hard prune'. Mind, I only do this once every FIFTH year. The plant does flower the following season immediately after, but it's nothing compared to the second and successive seasons!
