Roses are so beautiful and come in such a wide range of colours I don't really understand why they are trying to breed a 'blue' one. It's like the search for a true red delphinium and a black tulip - just what is the point? You might as well make a garden from coloured plasticine!

to be truethful Wagger I got this rose at then end of season because one of my little ones piggies died. The normal procedure is to bury them in the garden with a rose on top and this was what she choose. If you get a copy of this months RHS magazine there is an artical on roses and shows some new colours being bred......there is a lime green, toffee, chocolate and one described as Brownie. I think they are truly awful. I heard recently that someone is about to introduce a real blue rose which was obtained by removing the blue gene from delphiniums and transferring to a rose. Breeders have for years used specific traits in plant breeding but this method ie genetically modified I find disturbing
