I wonder what actually did him in? Anyone near you using chemicals on their yard? A lot of homes around here used to have the houses sprayed each year to control spiders, & I really noticed the decline of honeybees & butterflies. Glad chemical use is banned here now.

My guess is that the crab spider got him while he was polinating the flower, not sure though.

Oh yes, is that the crab spider near it's head? They are quite vicious little fellows aren't they.
