Allium Christophii

They are really nice ones I have just bought a couple do you have to dig them up or do they weather good I live in warwickshire county.

No, they should be ok. They will suffer the cold but could rot if sitting in wet soil. I always dig a bit of grit in the soil when planting and mine have come back each year, although these ones were only planted this year but |I have othersd that were planted 4 or 5 yrs ago.

Aren't these the coolest thing ? I love mine and the alliums I bought called Schubertii.. Both well wrth every penny I paid for them, they both get huge !

They're brilliant Flcrazy. They are so stunning when flowering but I like to keep them through the winter for their seed heads if I can. The problem with these Christophii Aliums on my rockery, at the moment is that the flower heads are so huge, the stems are starting to give way and might not last out under the weight much longer.

If possible I would try and give them a little extra support by getting some small, green bamboo stakes and tying the bloom stems to the stakes with some green bread ties or fishing line.That way the stakes and the ties would be almost transparent, and no one would even notice that they aren't standing up on their own. Hopefully that will help hold them up until the seeds have ripened. I plan on bringing my seeds heads in the house this winter and putting them in a dried flower arrangement. They are just too huge and pretty not to make the most of them...lol

Yes, I've tried tying Alliums before but not had a lot of success. The stems seem to break or come out of the ground
. Probably my clumsy big hands! But, perhaps I should try it earlier on before they've started to dry out.Something for me to remember next year!!

I'm sure you will figure out something Paul, resourceful gardeners always do !
