Bug1 - Cantharid beetle

I followed this chap round my garden this morning. He's about 1cm long. Anybody know what it is?
Anyway, he crawled around a bit of brickwork, and then.......(go to bug2)

It is indeed a Cantharid beetle.
First time I've seen or heard of one. :o)

I think it's a Soldier Beetle (Cantharis fusca). Appears from Spring to Summer on plants, bushes and ground. Catches and eats small insects and occasionallly eats young shoots. Lives under leaves etc.
