This is a beautiful combo B. I am looking at all the border pics to try to cheer myself up! This one is going to faves for inspiration later!

btw, as you know, I don't like sisyrinchiums, but seeing it with this salvia, I think I'm converted!

I should hope so too! They're very useful vertical plants. ;-)

Yes. However, as you know, my gardening style doesn't include many herbaceous perennials because being this far north, where the winters are long, I need to have all year round interest or I would go bonkers! That's why I tend to stick to shrubs, trees, climbers and woodland plants for the spring. That way, I can fit in a good number of evergreen shrubs, and there's not too much bare ground over the winter....still too much for my liking, but I don't want to go down the dwarf conifer route either. Much as I like to look at them occasionally, I don't want to look at them all year around!

They are evergreen.................................

lol...I didn't know that....obviously...durrr! :))

How's your Salvia this year? Mine are hanging on - but have suffered. :-(((
28 Feb, 2011
No sign of any growth yet B, but last year mine started a bit later than yours, so I haven't given up hope!

I have a couple of babies in pots as insurance. ;-)

Well done you. If mine don't come back I shall get some more as I don't think the garden would be the same without purple rain! The rest of them I could live without.

I know - I went out to various Nurseries last year to buy it - this is a 'must have' plant. :-))

Have you seen this month's GW mag? They have a 'best 20 plants ever' sort of thing and there is a salvia in there. It's a nemerosa...can't recall what name, but it's not purple rain, so I would have to say I couldn't agree. They also chose Bill MacKenzie as the best Clem.....erm...I don't think so!! lol

No, I haven't Karen - they need their eyes tested! lol.
Bill McKenzie? NEVER - he's a thug! :-(((((((

Yes, exactly what I think!
