This Acanthus was from my late customer john's garden. His daughter told me to take some pieces of plants I liked after her father passed away because she knew the new owners were going to pave the front garden(Isn't always the case now?!) John was one of my favourite customers. Not least because he, also, was a follower of Grays Athletic fc. I've had it for 3 years now, and this is the first year it has flowered. So I'm very pleased.

Thanks everyone. Yes, Bb, it's creating a problem with drainage etc, isnt it. Not to mention the loss of plants and habitat for the insect/wildlife. It doesn't take long to whizz the mower over a bit of grass, does it . And small strips of paving would be adequate for car parking. My front garden is one of the very few in my area still in it's traditional state. Even though my youngest now has a car, I'm going to resist the urge to park it on the garden. The wall is staying in place!!!

This is lovely. I love having plants which came from different people, it makes you remember them when you're looking at the garden. I'm an Essex girl Paul, grew up in Rainham but now live in Berkshire. We went to a funeral in Southend last month and came home through all the old places, a real trip down memory lane but like you say getting concreted over like everywhere else.

Oh we're in Corringham Lily, half way between Rainham and Southend on the Thames!

Good for you Paul.It is bad enough with new developments and roads being built all the time.Wildlife habitat is shrinking dramatically.
