Oenothera something - exact species unknown. This is the plant photo of the close-up (previous photo). It is most likely Spinning Evening Primrose.

Thanks! Glad I got a shot of it when I did, even tho the day was rainy. The blooms are starting to fade now.

What a beautiful colour. I love the tint of red on the buds!

My mom thought they'd bloom red, but they're yellow!

WOW...., I can't get over the red buds, you've talked me into trying them again !.....;-) Didn't take much convincing did it ?...lol I have the regular Oenothera fruticosa and they aren't this pretty, very plain in fact compared to yours! I think these are either Oenothera fruticosa ssp. glauca, or Oenothera fruticosa 'fireworks'. Yours really have a big bang. If you ever get tired of them, you know where to send them, right ?...lol

Sure! lol ... I looked back thru my journal again & found in 2001 I bought a Spinning Evening Primrose plant and put it in this bed. So this is what it must be! Not sure if they are fruticosa now... Searches online didn't turn up much (except I did find a YouTube video), and my books have nothing on Spinning Evening Primroses. I guess they've been putting on a show all these years, and I've been missing it!
