Your garden always looks just as nature intended but I'm sure it doesn't just happen without a lot of help from you. Wish I could manage that effect.

This really was as simple as could be. As we have a clay soil which takes a time to warm up in the sporing, I sowed most of these in trays in my cold frame and planted them as small plants in April. And then, at end Aprill I just scattered some more seed to keep the flowering going all summer(hopefully). You should try Lily by buying a hardy annual or cottage garden annual seed mix in the autumn or next spring and just sprinkle them on the soil (as lon as it's dug and raked over) and thern just lightly rake them in anmd wait!

This is lovely, very natural and wild looking. Just what I would like when I get down to some real gardening! Encouraged to hear that you have clay soil, so do we and always thought it would be a real problem to plant in - you give me hope! :-)

As you make it sound so easy I think I'll give it a go next year. My garden is too full up with dahlias and bedding now which are not really liking the weaher. Would be nice to try something completely different as I have never tried a cottage garden border. Truth is, I'm a bit of a tidy gardener but I love the natural look too. It's never too late!

I used to be a bit tidy Lily, and I still like to organise the borders but like them to look natural too. This bed is only quite small so won't get untidy looking, hopefully!
Clay is difficult because it stays so wet and cold through the winter and early spring Lilymac but it has it's advantages(Only a few) as well(full of nutrients). As it's so late warming up in spring I thought it best to start some of these off in pots!
Thanks Hollyeves
