First time I've seen it..It loved my rockets and was hanging around forever..Which was good, because I was shaking so much at first I couldn't get a good picture, plus it never stayed still. It was buzzing like a bee but had a little long thing on the front like butterflys have. Anyone know what it is? oh, and it's wings were see though.

Just googled clearwing moths, it is possibly a hummingbird moth (snowberry). I'm going to google some more!

at first bornagain i thought, this is the biggest bee I've ever seen and went running for my camera..then I thought it was a hummingbird. Then I realized I had no clue! Thanks for the info!

I looked it up, it's called a hummingbird clearwing moth, like you say bornagain. apparently it's throughout north america, but I've never seen it before.

They are usually nocturnal and nectar on night blooming flowers or flowers that have a heady scent in the evenings. Their feeder tube is called a proboscis. Great shot Newfie! How exciting! We get hummingbird moths here, a different type though. Whenever I've seen them at night I haven't had my camera w me!
