Thanks for your comments but I have to confess that this planting is a happy temporary accident. Due to an ongoing garden revamp I have had to put a lot of plants in pots to keep them safe from hubby's uncontrollable size 13 feet while he re-paves the patio! These astilbes are actually in a rectangular pot together as I was running out of big pots to put things in but they are not really very happy in these cramped conditions and hot weather. The heat has also stopped work on the patio so I don't know when they'll get back in the ground but I shall plant them together as I like the effect too.

Thank you, you have all inspired me to do the job properly!. I have taken the astilbes out of their temporary home, divided each into 5 or 6 pieces and replanted the mixed colours together in 4 large pots. When the borders are no longer being trampled on (still patio work in progress) I will put them in the borders. Hopefully will have a real mixed effect next year. I thought I put this reply in after your comment San, but must have forgotten to press 'submit'. Lol. Am always doing that!
