This is its first flower!

Are you sure its Handel....Handel is usually bi-coloured ...white with quite heavy pink/red margins along the edges of the petals?

Hi Amblealice, my Handel's white and pink - in fact he's in flower now. Lovely rose though, Spritzhenry - super colour.

That's EXACTLY what I thought when it appeared! The rose plant was labelled 'Handel' and I was surprised to see a plain pink rose. I'm a bit disappointed... I really wanted 'Handel'!

It isn't Handel is it. How disappointing :o(
I like it though.

Oh well, if it's a climber and a pretty one, I shan't complain.
I'd have liked 'Handel, though - I've been looking forward to it after seeing them in members' gardens!

You can always try again - buy another one :o)

Don't tempt me - I shall be looking round the garden to see if I can possibly fit one in, now!
1 Jul, 2009
I'm sure you've got room somewhere for one. lol
1 Jul, 2009
YOU can come over and find somewhere, Hywel! I hunted around and found a space for my 'Piilu' Clematis, but I need a lot more room for another climbing rose, don't I!

You could put up an arch or a trellis for it. You don't want to miss out on a 'Handel' - It's a lovely rose.

What, another arch or trellis, Hywel? Husband would have a fit at the thought! lol. I wish....
1 Jul, 2009
Maybe it's not Handel, but it has it's own beauty doesn't it?
1 Jul, 2009
I'm sure your husband won't mind. I thought he wasn't interested in the garden anyway.
1 Jul, 2009
No, he isn't - but he gets to put the trellis/arch up!
Pamazon, yes, it has. It's just a bit disappointing when I was expecting 'Handel'!
1 Jul, 2009
Now that's no excuse for not geting a Handel. If husband wasn't puting a trellis/arch up he'd probably be helping to do something else instead, so he might as well put the trellis/arch up :o)
You can put the blame on me :o)

Unfortunately, Hywel, we've had a burst water tank - so he's doing plumbing at the moment...I daren't raise the issue of another trellis! :-(
2 Jul, 2009
When the plumbing's fixed then :o)
You MUST get a Handel .

I was looking at an elderly Hebe this morning and wondering whether that should go to make a space...then 'Handel' could climb and dangle over the wall??? He'd face south west-ish.
2 Jul, 2009
That would look lovely :o)
I've just put a photo of my Handel on GoY. I bought it this year and it has nothing to climb on yet except an old beanstick :o)
2 Jul, 2009
I shall take a look, Hywel :-)
