A beautiful hanging Joshua tree flower spike...it usually grows straigh up. Photo taken on July 1, 2009 in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA.

Yes, they do look like another type of tree...however, these old Joshua trees can occasionally bloom like this...I've seen it before. : > )
