Thank you Terratoonie. I try to use contrasting colours and/or shapes. This always works but in such a tight space you have to judge how high and how fast the plants will grow, which isn't easy.

.. and then another year, you'll find different plants surprise you by flowering earlier or later in the month... Lol. :o)

You are quite right of course. In fact Terratoonie this particular bed has changed since I took this shot, but not much. Had to take the long tall Juniper out though because it died on me: owing to the cold winds that blow straight off Chat moss. I thought it was tougher than that, but have replaced it with a Christmas rose. I guess I am more an artist than a gardener. I lose more plants than I gain.

I know about the cold winds Bix..it is a struggle here too. Did you do the brick work yourself?

Yes Catfinch I not only did all the brickwork but also laid the paving and cobbles too. I roughed out the design on my computer basing it on the face of Micky Mouse, which my neighbour opposite noticed from her bedroom window and joked about. Thankfully she can't see it now that the plants are in.
