Potatoes In Sacks, Oh me of Little Faith!!!

Potatoes In Sacks, Oh me of Little Faith!!!

You may remember my blog in March this year when I was a tad sceptical about growing spuds in anything but the ground. But I bought these sacks(must have been on special offer ,I reckon!) . and planted three 1st early tubers.Today, I had a rummage round and look what I found. But I left the plants in place so any tiny spuds can, hopefully, keep growing to a good sizeI must be a modern gardener afterall!! These are Dunluce, a 1st early that doesn't flower. They tasted great with salad!

Well done, Mr Modern Gardener. Bet you're the first person to be delighted to 'get the sack'.

Have been thinking of having a go at this, so seeing your results I think i definitely will. I thought it wasn't too late to start off late potatoes but when I asked at the garden centre for seed potatoes they said they finished ages ago.

do you have to wait till the plant dies back before u harvest spuds???

5 Jul, 2009

They turned out great Paul...... i grew mine in pots and have already eaten some..............left the rest to get bigger......

5 Jul, 2009

No, Sandra not necessarily, most first and second earlies are harvested from when the flower opens but there are some that don't flower so it's a bit of guess work although main crop you do, as you say wait till foliage begins to die down.
