Pili Hole

This is a typical hole made by a Pileated Woodpecker. This is another black cherry tree. Pili nest cavities are usually somewhat like this hole only they are made in dead trees most of the time.

Great to see the woodpeckers but it looks as though they're a mixed blessing! Didn't realise they could do this much damage.

I might be upset about the hole in the tree but now that I know the tree can heal itself I'm just thrilled that I can watch such a magnificent bird.
