Young strangler fig forming a lattice over the host tree which as the fig grows thicker, will be slowly strangled to death. It will eventually rot away leaving a hollow tube.

Yes it bears fruit which birds eat and after a period of time negotiating the birds digestive tract the fig seeds may be fortunately deposited in the crook of a branch. The seeds germinate and send down a tap root to the ground. Then it begins to thicken and more roots branch out and wrap around the host.
