Bat Hunting Front Porch

Bat Hunting Front Porch

I really got lucky getting this pic of a bat hunting moths on my front porch one night. You can see the gray moth to his right has escaped but I think he has caught a little gray moth in his left foot. The really strange thing is that it was November 10 and was only 45 degrees F. and I would have thought that the bat had migrated to his winter hibernation spot by then.

I have to say that I have a real hard time warming up to these little guys.

That's probably because we grew up thinking that they were all rabid and would get tangled up in your hair ! They really are good guys.

We sometimes get little dorbentons round here - they often fly in daylight and look just like a little windup toy that someone has set off - they really do look strangely mechanical - I must admit I'm a huge bat fan! We mainly get tiny pipastrals tho - they are teeny-weeny - small enough to sit on a coin. Quick! To the bat mobile! (Sorry, couldn't resist it....)

Hurrah bat fanciers!... I've been commissioned by my cousin, (a farmer) ,to build bat houses for his barn and equipment shed...I'm making one for me while I'm at it.
