This is a male Red-bellied Woodpecker that lives in the back woods. He and his mate don't allow many others of his species in this immediate area, as I hardly ever see more than the pair at one time. During winter I may see a few others.

We have quite a few of these around the house, and the yellow belied sap suckers, still waiting to see a closeup of a pileated woodpecker, for more than one split second at a time. But I'm not going to hold my breath..lol
