I was shocked when I dug up my marguerite sweet potato vine tuber last fall, it weighed 7 lbs 4 ozs.when I'd planted it in late May, it was just a rooted cutting .

It is crazy. I knew it had to be one of those 'freak of nature' occurrences, so I took a picture of it, I'm sure it will never happen again. I'm was just tickled it happened once....lol.

It looks like an infant! When I saw the thumbnail size pic I knew it was a tuber but it looked like you had your hand cupping the feet and knees of a newborn! Yikes. Even the umbilicus...

Wow! what a weird looking sweet potato, I love eating sweet pots. You have some wonderful flowers there.

What did it taste like?

I didn't eat it Mcmneil, these are an ornamental variety grown mostly for their fancy leaves, they are related to the regular garden variety.They are said to be edible, but generally have poor taste, some are even bitter. So this big boy, is going back in the ground in May, to vine out again, with it's beautiful chartreuse foliage.

Can you cut it in half and get two plants?

Unfortunately I didn't even get one out of it . It developed a soft spot and then quickly rotted about two months before It was time to go back in the ground. It didn't develop any eyes over the winter like regular potatoes, so I don't know if you can half these.

lol..., it was a little spooky looking ! I was disappointed when I dug up my tubers this year, I didn't find one even close to this size .
