This is the Cinnabar moth caterpillar I think (red and black) much more fashionable lol.

I've just read about the Cinnabar moth. It lays eggs on ragwort leaves which are rich in alkaloid poisons. As they eat the leaves, the caterpillars store the poison, which is passed on through to the chrysalis and then to the butterfly.

Predators such as birds soon learn not to eat them !

It's incredible how nature works. And even more incredible how they find the right plants to feed from!

At least predators get a warning with those colours.Same with many species poisonous to others ie wasps and some frogs are black and yellow for the same reason :)
