Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lanarth White'

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lanarth White' (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lanarth White')

This hydrangea grows to five feet tall and wide and will tolerate sun as long as the soil remains moist; it is not so happy in heavy shade where it struggles and fails to flower

This is a pretty one, I bought a lace hydrandea which has variegated leaves but I dont know the name of it as I bought of an elderly gentleman at a car boot who grows them

This is very attractive Andrew.
Is there a rule about which hydrangeas don't do well in the shade ?
I have various types planted in full shade which are flowering...

Morgana - probably either 'Tricolor' or 'Quadricolor'

TT - no rule, just read the labels! I first saw this one growing in front of a south facing wall and looking really happy so I know it will take sun. Mine has shelter from the hottest part of the day but gets the sun in the morning and late afternoon onwards. Hydrangeas tend to be woodland plants but I think a reliably moist soil is probably the most important thing for them
