Aristolochia gigantea - Giant Pelican Flower

Giant Pelican Flower is a very sought after vine. It has the largest flower of any Aristolichia species up to 3 feet/1 meter long...and is native to Brazil. This vine is at Quail Botanical Gardens. July 7, 2009.

They are pretty available here...however, they grow so large one must have a lot of room for it to grow. One plant can easily cover a 150 foot fence.

At Kew we have three species of Aristolochia in bloom at the moment, A grandiflora, A gigantea and A littoralis. They are amazing flowers and very popular with the public.Quail Botanical Gardens looks very impressive.

All the species of Aristolichia you mentioned are commonly available at most nurseries for sale as outdoor vines here in San Diego. They grow very quickly and need a very large trellis or fence to climb on.
