Does that mean they'd break easily ?
My garden's on a windy hillside so i'm thinking they'd snap :(

Not really it’s a good idea to stake them though especially in a windy spot and also if you pinch out when young they bush up and get a bit stronger.If you had a sheltered spot the will be even better.
