A perennial Lobelia.
Survived the winter whilst the Queen Victoria's (one was in the same pot) didn't.

Hi Meanie what do you normally do with your lobelia over the winter? I have got a couple of fan scarletts - didn't know whether to cut them back or just leave them as they are?

Mine usually die back naturally.
Some protection for the worst of winter is usually offered, but I try to have it removed by the end of March.

Thanks Meanie I'll do that - wouldn't like to lose them.

I grow quite a few in pots which are moved close to the house to overwinter.
That is usually enough for the potted ones.

Mine are in a large tub close to a wall and quite sheltered. Do you protect them with fleece or leaves?

I'm a little lazy with the potted ones as they are moved next to the house & that seems to be enough..
The Queen Victorias in the ground get grass cuttings.
That said, I lost most of my Queen Vics last winter, although they are said to have a limited life.
