Candytuff - who would have thought it?

A plant which surprised me this year was Candytuff, a self-seeder from the previous year. It grew stronger than the original planting; thicker stems, taller and quite bushy. It was really eye catching when you consider the previous year it didn’t put on much of a show. I look forward now to it coming back again next year – a plant well worth having in the garden!

I 're-discovered' candytuft a couple of years back phs - it's a lovely little plant. Self-seeding too which is a plus!!

I'm pleased for you. I haven't grown it for years. I must get some seeds next year.

I love Candytuft and have been merrily sprinkling seeds amongst my other plants - to no avail! I don't think it likes it here! Glad yours is coming up trumps though - they're gorgeous to see in clumps of blooms. :o)

I had to look up Candytuft to make sure it was Iberis - I've never grown the annual form, but always have Iberis sempervirens or 'Snowflake' as ground cover - great plant, masses of white flowers in spring, good evergreen ground cover the rest of the time.

I haven't grown it for some years, but I,ve found some annuals did better than the half hardys this year

Will have to investigate Iberis sempervirens on the internet now. It's an education being on this site.

I have some from last year that has spread and is tumbling down my patio walls, its done grand, however the seeds I scattered in the springtime have failed dismally, I guess the wet ruined them, I always give them a hair cut when the flowers go over the same as my perennial ground spreading one then just scatter the seed, they either grow or not, its up to them, lol...
