Yes, I was going to say the same as Thrup. They do look like the red hot poker. Very exotic, love the vivid colour and shape.

Hummingbirds love them. Hard to understand why no hummingbirds are native to Europe. Even more shocking? NONE are in South Africa ( or Africa, period) even though these plants draw them like bees to honey here in California. Hummers even nest close by to be close to winter food.
