Hardy Begonia

siris

By Siris

Hardy Begonia (Begonia grandis (Begonia) ssp evansiana)

Borderline hardy, I would say. I have had this Begonia for over 20 years, some lives in the border, but is always very late to emerge. This particular plant is in a tub with a Rose under the carport.

Gg, One year it reduced to one tiny piece, but I have built up my stock now.

Amazing Siris. That looks like an indoor one too. Begonias don't like it here. I never manage more than a month or so. I bought one about a month ago and it's still alive although once the heating goes on it will probably give up. The Tuberous ones in the baskets are a different story, I've had some of them for a lot of years and just store in winter.

This variety has never been grown indoors here, Thorney, but I do put a layer of bark over it in the border.

Bought it from Spinners in the New Forest, or to be exact Peter Chappell gave me a piece as I admired it along the driveway.
