As beautiful as these plants are, I will never have one again in my garden. Ouch, the thorns are nasty.

Don't stick them in your fingers then!!!!!!!

ha ha, ever felt it???

Can't say that I have!
Worst I ever had was a minute shard of glass in my index finger - almost impossible to find and get out!

Oh the pain is worse that a sting from a bee and it last.

Alexandramou:

Having grown many very large Bougainvillea bushes, vines and standards in the past....I know exactly what that pain is like. It's definitely a lasting pain!

Finally someone who knows the feeling. They are beautifu though Delonix1. They grow very fast and very large here. I had a gorgeous white one that was more flowers than leaves. The rare frost killed it when I was away. But some things are meant to be looked at and not touched....Beware Meanie.

Must I keep repeating myself - stop sticking them in your fingers then!!!

Oh don't worry I don't go near them anymore.....

Alexandramou:

I always use thick leather gloves when pruning Bougainvillea.

We don't get frost here...so Bougainvillea just takes over and becomes very huge.

I posted a photo of a white Bougainvillea taking over half a house. You should check it out.

OK Delonix1 will have a look. Mine was growing up the side my stairs and around the balcony so there were times I had to move branches out of the way. This white one was the only one that died of frost (we don't get frost very often) It was my bad luck that I was away that week.

Alexandramou:

Usually, white, yellow, orange and light pastel colors are the most tender.

Oh I haven't seen a yellow one...that must look beautiful. I looked for the picture of the white Bougainvillea, couldn't find it. Where did you post it?

16 Sep, 2010

Alexandramou:

There's bright yellow and light yellow varieties as well as shades of gold.

It's located on page 10 of the Bougainvillea search. I was going to repost the pic...however, the pic was lost when my computer crashed this past January. I just may have tp take another photo. : > )
