New one this year...planted it for Will and Kate and (even moreso) for privacy! Lovely colour and really long flowers....a good one! Sadly, earwigs agree!

Slightly redder in real life Sheila, but quite purple. It is certainly a good rich colour. All the buddlejas have wonderful colour don't they. I love the pale blue ones as well.

I like the way the attract butterflies and insects.
17 Jul, 2011
I wouldn't give them room in my garden were it not for the butterflies!

And the Hummingbird Moth... :))

:o) Bet Karen hasn't seen one of those because they are not known to be that far north, think they are getting about more or less all over England now but only in warm weather. Wish I had my pictures off my old computer I would post a picture it was really amazing, I wondered what on earth it was until I got out my book on wild life and read all about them. It was pretty amazing to see something like that for me. Loved it.

I think they're lovely too, I snapped a baby one the other day, and it still gave me its rear end to snap... :))
In our old garden, I was pruning and tidying, and I felt this sting in my Elbow area..I had accidently brushed against one...I don't think it was intentional, I just got in his way... :))
17 Jul, 2011
Gosh, I didn't know they could sting you! Nope, none of them up here...but no lily beetles either! :))
17 Jul, 2011
ooh don't start me off on Lily Beetles...luckily it was only the ones at the front they started to attack...and I'm usually so vigilant, but they had decimated all but the flower on two stems before I caught them...little blighters, they got Garlic 'd very quick...
17 Jul, 2011
Do you mean you use your garlic press to squish them? ;)
17 Jul, 2011
No silly :))) My home made Garlic Aphid spray...see my Blog lol......
18 Jul, 2011
;))) Would make a great squisher though!

Now then Karen you know being silly is what gets you into trouble, naughty girl. lol. I have killed over 100 lily beetles this year again, the darned things are getting clever though, they have started hiding underneath the leaves now, they see me walking up the garden and hide I am sure.

Don't throw the key away Karen, the sun will shine soon. You will need to be out in the garden. lol. Is Scott back at work this week or still on hols?
18 Jul, 2011
Yup, back to work now...little me...all 'by selfs' (a rachelism) not even a doggy here as she is on her holiday at Rachel's flat until tonight...hence the shopping trip! :))

Everyone all together ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Make the most of it she will be back twice as energetic as she was before she went, think you ought to get that bike out and a long lead and go for a long ride/walk tomorrow, to see what is out on those lovely roadsides and verges, take the camera too.
18 Jul, 2011
I have often thought of taking her out with me on the bike, but it would be extremely stressful worrying where she was going...between the wheels etc. Tomorrow am we will be out walking for sure...I need to get some exercise!
