Calliandra haematocephala - Powder Puff Tree

This powder puff tree is growing as a shrub; however, it can become a tree to 30' (10m) tall. It's a winter bloomer and is very common here in San Diego. Photo taken Feb. 12, 2016 at Morley Field, Balboa Park.

It may have some sporadic blooms in spring.
It typically starts flowering in fall through late winter or early spring.
Calliandra surinamensis blooms in winter; however, I have seen it flowering in late summer.
