Palmate, this is not the same tree. LOL! :>)

This tree is very tropical.

I have what I suspect to be a Cassia in bud. Hopefully it will bloom before it gets too cold and we can work out what it is.

It will not be as spectacular as this though!

Most Cassia species are pretty tropical (some are somewhat hardy). Even the shrubby species can be very showy when in bloom. Not sure how they would bloom there...as most need a lot of heat to bloom well.

Plenty of buds...................

Is it growing outdoors?

27 Oct, 2013

Ours are winter/dry season bloomers. They're a sight for sore eyes when all around is parched and dry.

"Is it growing outdoors?"

Is it heck as like!! The one that is outdoors is looking rather distressed!

Bernieh:

Many species of Cassia do bloom in winter; however, not C. fistula.

Meanie:

It's too cold for Cassia species to grow well outdoors there.
Most species of Cassia need a lot of heat and sun.

Does this beauty have a perfume, if not it should!!

30 Oct, 2013

Yes, this one has a nice, sweet fragrance like Cassia leptophylla (which is extremely common here). Most Cassia species don't have a fragrance, though.

OK....:-)

Changed my mind about mine - I'm 99% certain that it's a Crotalaria. Not sure of the exact species yet, but hopefully in the next week I'll have open blooms.

8 Nov, 2013

Crotalaria species tend to be hardier and more tolerant of cool conditions than most Cassia species.

Apparently so - bit of a bonus for me!

11 Nov, 2013

I should say it depends on the species. I was just speaking generally (from what I've read).
