Oh I really like that ... it's so pretty , is it late flowering Barbara or does it bloom twice in the season ?

Lovely shape pretty.

You'll have to ask Louise - I got mine after I saw hers! I reckon it only flowers once, though, as it's a group 3 Clematis.

No telling any more Spritz, not with our seasons....My Potentilla has just started reflowering............Lol

Haha - she has a lot to answer for - maybe she's on a bonus from the growers, Motinot! LOL. Did you get the other one - the double viticella? I did! :-))

They are so unusual, must put on list.........

Someone around here has had two tries at digging mine up so I've had to put a wire cage around it.

Errrrr....another GOY member who's seen them and wants it, possibly? LOL. A rabbit? A badger? A mole? Your neighbour? Are there any clues, Toto?

I think it may be a fox as it's by my bottom shed and something has been digging under it. The only problem I have is that he or she has chosen the very spot where the Clematis is to dig.

What a pain! What can you do to deflect his/her path??
27 Sep, 2009
Thanks for the reminder.I must get this plant!

I've put some heavy wire up. Hope if he digs again he'll do it to one side. He is welcome but hope he doesn't completely destroy the Clematis.

Oh, so do I!!
Robert - you'll love it! Go for it! :-))

I tried to get P.D at the weekend , the garden centre hadn't any left at all , they were having a clear out , all shrubs and trees were half price :o)
and the shelves had xmas stuff on already !!
28 Sep, 2009
What?? - it's still SEPTEMBER...isn't it?? That is pushing it a bit - how about autumn? Are they missing that out this year?
28 Sep, 2009
It's ridiculous isn't it Barbara they had all the christmas tree decorations out , everything for xmas .
This is normally a good garden centre where you can buy almost anything , we have noticed that in the last year or two they have been trying to compete with the big boys , selling more gifts and clothes etc.
We couldn't even buy seed trays , the ones without the holes in the bottom to stand plants in to water them from the botom , it's madness !
28 Sep, 2009
Totally ridiculous! Louise has just sent me a PM to tell me that one of the Nurseries we both like has a 20% off 'end of season' sale - and that the big GC nearby also has its Christmas things in...so what about the people like us who want to buy gardening equipment, seeds, plants etc??
28 Sep, 2009
Sadly, "people like us" are in the minority, and in order for our GC's to keep going over autumn and winter, they have to resort to the seasonal trade of christmas gifts and decs, in order to meet their overheads and staff costs. Without this christmas trade, a lot of our GC's would have to close over winter....:((

They will be pushing serious gardeners out if they're not careful ' cos we will be looking for the ones that do cater for our needs ..
I still know of one or two that don't sell anything else except shrubs , plants and related goods . , I wonder how long for !
28 Sep, 2009
That's where I am going tomorrow! I'll see if they have anything interesting at 20% off....I may call in to the huge GC as well - but I shall try to ignore the glitter. It's far too early for all that!
I do accept what you say, Di - but couldn't they wait just a bit longer?
