It doing well for now. lol! I've had bad luck growing Crotons. My large one in the front yard was growing very well and had huge beautiful leaves...then a big mite attack killed almost all leaves this past summer. Now, it's slowly coming back (after lots of systemic pesticide).

Yes, the pests are driving me nuts! My other Croton is growing better now. This Mammy Croton will receive systemic pesticide in early spring to prevent a mite attack.

Its a question of making it through the winter up here in the bay area. I don't mind the container growing...put them 3-4' off the ground and they are eye candy.
I have 'Petra'..my last try with 'Mammy' ( kind of time to call it something else by now isnt it?) had it die in a December 32f..I put it in ground and challenged the winter. It was cold that year!

Crotons really are not good plants to grow outside in the SF Bay Area. They are so tropical...we're lucky they are just hardy enough to grow here in San Diego...and that's not in all areas. They grow best close to the coast and in urban San Diego where temps stay very mild in winter. Further inland they usually don't survive outside.
