It is in the group the Pacific Islanders make poi from - some of the blandest food I've tried. They sometimes boil it and eat it with nothing to add taste to it.

Hi Waddy
I suppose it is as when I bought it originally it arrived looking like a huge turnip is the best way to describe it , the size of the leaf bottom left is,
24 inches / 60.96 centimeters long, and just under 18 inches across ...
gives my tropical corner impact, and when my goddaughter seen it for the first time she stood in amazement and said wow lush ! lol I said it is lush lol

I looked this up on the Azorean Biodiversity website, and it grows wild on all the islands. I have seen it planted as a crop, and it takes 2-3 years before it is ready to eat.

Thanks GG. It really sounds odd...sorry!
Wylie, if it takes 2-3 years, I might give it a miss, but thanks for the info anyway. :-)

How intriguing, I looked it up as well .......
'grown primarily for its edible corms, the root vegetables most commonly known as taro. It is believed to be one of the earliest cultivated plants.'
Not too good if you have to wait 2-3 yrs tho.
It's also known as the potatoes unfortunate hairy cousin, lol
