well Tommymoo, I should not have had termites, but here is a short version of the story. I was tearing down ugly wallpaper, got to the last wall & noticed it looked a little funky. I thought that maybe I had a roof leak because there was a bit of mold. Then I ripped off a big chunk and saw them. Termites! I screamed many, many 4-letter words & called an exterminator. He went into the crawl space & emerged with a termite-tunnelled pine plank. It had been nailed up under the affected wall. There was no reason for it to be there - it wasn't holding anything up - and it hadn't been there for that long. He said that somebody did that intentionally, & did I have any enemies? I suspect the previous owners or their teenage children put that wood there; they were not happy about losing their house & before they moved out they made sure to do some damage to heaters, outlets, appliances etc. Since my house was built in 1900, all the joists are made of hardwood, which is now old and dry and of no interest whatsoever to termites. They tunnelled up thru that pine and into the sheetrock covering the original tongue-and-groove pine walls. The termite folks had to dig a trench around my house, fill it with poison and spray the heck out of my crawlspace.

Oh my word Lauram, that's horrific! Isn't it sad there are some vicious people out there? Just disgusting. Hope the pests are all gone by now (I bet the exterminator made sure he did a good job) and you are free from the nightmare. I'm sorry that you've gone through some horrible things such as this, the mushroom poisoning incident, and dangerous cable damages...

My hardy bananas are still outdoors in the turtle pen, haven't looked at them in a few weeks so who knows if they're still with us! They SHOULD survive the winter here if I mulch them real well. I can't take them in because of termites (been there, done that, don't want to do it again!).
