Eupatorium purpureum

Eupatorium purpureum (Eupatorium purpureum (Purple Joe Pye weed))

This is the cultivated version - the flower colour is darker, as are the stems. They're just as popular with bees and butterflies, though.

That's a shame...shall I try to save some seed for you, Denise?

Thanks Spritz but they are all around here so I will probably get them again next year.

Heaven help us! They can tinker with anything these days! The eupatorium grows lush and wild in several areas along the highway between here and Ottawa... I told my hubby, last trip, that I wanted to stop on our way home next time and get myself some roots!!

They're lovely and useful plants, and if you're allowed to dig up some roots, then why not have the plant in your garden?

Absolutely, Spritz! As they are growing on the margins of the highway, I should be able to take some with no problem.

Yes, I'm fond of it, G. :-)

In my travels yesterday, I saw plenty of this "weed" growing along the margins of the roads and in farmers' meadows, near a stream...I know if I knocked on the farmhouse door and asked, they would let me take as much as I wanted...and probably think me a little strange for wanting it at all~!

Go for it, Lori! :-))
