Helenium, 'short and sassy' (Helenium autumnale (American Sneezeweed))

I'm really liking the late summer colour. Hoping the slugs and snails stay away. 🤞

I love the look of these but OH not so keen. I shall admire yours on screen!

Having felt very smug at the intact Hosta leaves, I was so disappointed to find some shredded leaves a couple of days ago. The little critters now have to slither across the coffee grounds again ... she said laughing manically!! :o))

Thank you, Shirley. It was actually one of OH's purchases. I usually buy lavender and pinkish hued flowering plants. I'm liking it though, it feels like a warm addition, if it survives the onslaught of slimy creatures!
You did make me laugh, I've a vision of you in the garden laughing manically! Honestly, these horrible creatures drive you to it!!!!

Thanks Klahanie, OH picked it up the other week with a kniphofia. Think I've spelt it correctly! He was keen to add some warmth at the end of our not so summery summer!!!

Ha, ha Kate ... we now have another problem in the garden with a Fox leaving his mark. So far I have found mess on the lawn, the path and, disgustingly, on top of a Hosta plant, yuk!!

It must leap over either the garden fences or the side gate, all of which are over 6ft.high.

Those are an attractive addition, Kate. I love them but sadly they don't like us and always wither and dwindle away.

Thanks Ange, I, too worry mine may wither and dwindle. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, as OH chose this one.

Crikey, Shirley! Sounds like war in your garden! I can imagine you armed with your battling tools and potions to deter!
OH has gathered up lots of ash from our chiminea today and put a load around this plant and some others. He read that it’s a deterrent.
I’m thinking nothing seems to deter these slimy little critters…apart from standing guard on the night shift, tossing each one of them over the bund!

Kate, I think we gardeners will try just about anything to deter these beasties! This morning I found a pot upturned, soil had been burrowed into and some gravel was all over the patio ... pesky Fox again I guess.
