This Afternoon

This Afternoon (Hippeastrum papilio (Butterfly amaryllis))

Bianca, while trying to high wire the rail (which she has never even attempted) slid through all the plants on the steps snapping the amaryllis off at the bulb. I wonder how long it'll last.

What a shame - it is just beautiful.

It should last a good while, GT. Mine took a similar tumble..(the result of being top heavy with blossom!) Like a cut flower I put them in water with some sugar in it and they kept long enough for the last bud to open and complete the blossoming. Mine are in a sunny window right now...with lots of great green leaves...I'm feeding them a bit and will put them outdoors when the warm days come and just let nature take care of them...they will have hoarded all the nutrients they need for next seasons blooms and will go dormant with less watering. They'll start up again in late autumn. I love these plants!!!

A little sugar, that should help. I've got mine waiting to go out and grow as well. This new world of bulbs is so fascinating. Although a new addiction empties the pockets pretty quick. :-) Thank for the info, I hope to get a long life and many children. :-)

What a shame GT. It looks nice in the pot though.

I sometimes tell my pets, "it's a good job I love you"...

Oh, she was alright, and got a good telling to, almost word for word Newfie. :-)

With your greenthumb, you'll have it up and running again in no time. Even in this pic it's looking none the worse for the incident. Glad to hear Bianca is okay too.

What else?

See who else is growing Hippeastrum papilio (Butterfly amaryllis).

See who else has plants in genus Hippeastrum.

This photo is of "Amaryllis 'Blossom Peacock'" in Greenthumb's garden
