This loves it outdoors in the summer. Best in a fairly shady spot.

One is planted out and I'll just strike cuttings from it in the autumn. The other one is kept in a pot as a "banker" in case the cuttings fail.

The one in the shower room grows huge... :D I might have a go at taking some cuttings in the autumn if this is the time to do it... My main problem is I don't have a greenhouse and cuttings take up so much room indoors... :D

Take cuttings anytime.

Your Congo Imaptiens looks great! I have to take cuttings and move mine into to different parts of my yard. They only live in the ground for about two years then for some reason they decline and die.

I have to take cuttings 'cos the winter kills them!!
Is it drought stress killing them? Or virus?

My horticulture friend says there's some type of disease affecting many Impatiens. It's soil-borne.
1 Jul, 2014
There's a virus attacking the common Busy Lizzies over here................
1 Jul, 2014
It could be the same virus. I'll have to research it.
Most Impatiens typically live at least 4 or 5 years.
2 Jul, 2014
To the best of my knowledge, it is only the Busy Lizzie strains that are affected..............
2 Jul, 2014
Here all the impatiens are being affected.

Ours is going great guns, but I only keep them in pots, and take cuttings when they become too large...

DD - they really do romp away in a fairly shady spot in the ground and quickly reach a metre or so. They make a great feature plant outdoors.
Delonix - if it is a virus keep it to yourself.

Here's some information on the impatiens disease. It appears to be the same disease that has hit Europe.

That's bad news.

Yes, it's horrible news. I love my variegated-leaf variety with pink flowers. Luckily, I've been able to keep it alive. I take many cuttings.

Might try it Meanie....

You won't regret it DD!
