Wonderful blooms!

Thanks! It's amazing these trees are still blooming. Many trees seem to be blooming late this year.

Beautiful! Just beautiful. :o)

Thanks! Many trees have finished blooming already...however, I still see thousands of trees flowering. They'll bloom again in late summer or early fall again for a lighter bloom.

Mmm! Jacaranda flowers. My Jacaranda was cut right back to make way for garage extensions! It's not coming back very well unfortunately.

Hello Bernieh!

Sorry to hear about your Jacaranda tree! I'm sure it will eventually come back quickly...as they're very fast-growing trees.

This tree in the front yard was cut back drastically (on one side) by the city of San Diego because it was in the electrical/telephone wires. However, by the end of summer it'll be back into the wires again.

It hasn't come back very quickly, Andy. It was sawn down to around two metres tall ... it was standing at around 6 metres. There's two tiny little bits of new growth and that's it. Of course now we're in our dry season so I'm not expecting much more than that for many months to come. I'll have to wait until after the next wet season to see any great improvement I think.

I think the Jacaranda trees there are on a very different cycle than here. Do the Jacarandas bloom and grow in the dry season or wet season, or in both seasons?

2 Jul, 2011

Andy, they bloom as the dry season is coming to an end. They usually start to bloom mid to late Spring (Oct - Nov) and then go on through the early Summer here.

If the wet season arrives around mid-summer, they will stop their blooming in early Summer .. somehow they know it's on the way ... but if the wet doesn't begin until right at the end of summer, they usually continue to bloom through early January (mid-Summer).

Bernieh:

Yes, the trees there are definitely on a different blooming cycle.

Here they start to bloom in early April (Spring) and trees can continue to bloom through most of July...as many are still blooming now. The spring bloom is the heaviest ...then in late summer or very early fall the trees have a lighter bloom. I've seen some tree bloom as late as December...however, this is pretty rare.

Never seen one before........lovely colour.

Photos can't do them justice. Hopefully one day you can see one in person! This tree is only best-adapted to subtropical, tropical climates. Although, they can also be grown in the warmest of warm-temperate climates.
