Ligularia przewalskii enjoys the conditions of shade and moist ground by the pond. Behind is an arum lily and behind that typha latifolia or bullrush, grown from seed. Although vigorous, we had great difficulty establishing the bullrushes as there are coypu which eat them and love the young plants.

Hate to admit it, but the anti-coypu strategy involved a humane trap (cage) and a very powerful air rifle! They look so cute swimming in the pond, but they do incredible damage to river banks and waterways with burrowing, and also destroy a lot of vegetation, including water lilies, bamboo shoots, and (the final straw) red cabbages!

I guess the coypu don't damage the adult bullrushes ?

Unfortunately the coypu will have a go at anything once they are hungry. But so far this year they have left the wild (large yellow) water lily alone and also the bullrush. I'm wondering if I might be able to feed them with 'Felipill' which stops the cats breeding: perhaps it might work on the coypu!

I'd rather have the coypu;-)
