You ever seen Monstera fruit? Common houseplant outdoors.

That's a long time. When I had my plant in Hayward and Fremont (yes, the plant I have was moved from the SF Bay Area) it would ripen in about 4 months. I have several fruit on my plant. The ants seem to get to them before me. lol!

Its in a lot of shade Andy. I have seen some local Monstera that had many fruit on them but were getting more direct sun. I had this plant under my Yucca for years and it would fruit there...then when we had the 1998 freeze,I moved it to another yard with the Podocarpus. Much cooler.
Still,its slow but steady. In any case,Monstera is at least a year long ripening here.

My plant is in almost complete shade. It produces a lot of fruit. When I lived in Fremont it was in shade, also. It produced tons of fruit (which the ants would get, also!). They really like some full sun to grow faster. I don't want mine to grow faster, though. It's growing fast enough for me. I need to cut it back. It's going to get more sun soon. I'm having my Ficus craterastoma cut down tomorrow. I love the tree; however, it's a monster that grows too fast. It has aerial roots, some of the aerial roots are in the ground and developing trunks, it's a monster! In 10 years it been cut to the ground once and cut to 6' several times. When cut to 6' it grow to 25' within about a year!

Tree's ...we've been taught to plant them. Only,as gardeners in urban/suburban lots they take up what we need most- sun.
You wont miss it when you see all the great soucal sun raining down Andy.
Let the botanical gardens have biggest this or that.

That tree gave the back yard some good shade. It's so extremely hot the last several years. This whole property is exposed to hot south-sun rays. I can't work out there in the summer.
