Yes, I see now that you mention it...those ants are super smart, and such a pain.
I have lost several plants in the past from ants. They actually cultivate scale in the heart of palms and other plants to harvest the sweet sticky secretion from the scales.

The center spathe will develop into fruit. It will turn yellow and taste like pineapple.
