Planted this spring to replace the dead Correas. It isn't evergreen, but is hardy....

I hadn't either - I did some research to track down a shrub that flowered in May/June and was hardy. Shame it isn't evergreen as well, but I couldn't find that combination except shrubs for acid soil....I like this, though!

Beautiful - and so unusual :-)

I tried for ages to find one of theseand finally tracked one down at the Dutchy of Cornwall Nursery. Sent for it and planted it in my garden a few years ago. It never did flower and graduall died over a few years. Rather sad as I really like them.

Sorry Spritz. I hope that you have better luck than I did.

Oh I do hope so, Toto! :-/

I have this. I think I got it from Larch Cottage nursery, but not sure. It's nice. It has a nice graceful arching habit and mine is doing very well. A few of the lowest bits died over winter, but it didn't matter as it had grown some much taller branches anyway. Hope it thrives for you B. I have acid soil of course.....I wonder if Essex is more alkaline toto?

Oh help! I have neutral soil! Is is meant to like acid soil???
5 Jun, 2010
Well, obviously not as it is doing well for you! I really can't remember B, I just thought that might be the reason for Toto's failure.

I'd better look it up, tho' when I was looking for a replacement shrub, I did do the research, and I didn't see any mention of soil likes/dislikes.
